Pokemon Map Project
SMITH built an interactive Pokémon GO Map that helps players see Pokestops and Gyms in the area that are collocated with tourism destinations.
From fine dining to zip lining, the Outaouais region of Québec is one of Canada’s most beautiful and dynamic tourist destinations. For romantic getaways, the welcoming communities offer warmth and charm, and for families, the range of outdoor activities allow fun-filled days of fresh air.
SMITH’s clients at Marketel, the AOR for Tourisme Outaouais, recognized the current Pokémon GO trend that has kids (and grownups) exploring the world around them via the Augmented Reality game, and decided to give players a little help while exploring the best the region has to offer.
To promote adventures in both worlds, Marketel and Tourisme Outaouais hosted a Pokémon Safari near the Canadian Museum of History, placing Lures at various member locations in the vicinity to encourage players to explore beyond the obvious.
But where are the Pokémon hiding?! Marketel called the SMITH only a few days before the Safari, trusting that the team could help bring their idea to life. A simple experiment was developed in just two days: an interactive Pokémon GO Map that helps players see Pokestops and Gyms in the area that are collocated with tourism destinations.
The event was a hit, with hundreds of Pokémon caught in the Safari, and the map remains a fun tool for players in the area to explore.
